A natural detoxifier that helps even out skin tone
As featured in Scrub Me Silly, Bentonite Clay is a natural powder named after Fort Benton, Wyoming (the largest source for the clay) with another name for it being
Formed by the decomposition of volcanic ash or igneous/sedimentary rocks - very science-y we know (you should look at the actual process of production and concentration to feel us! 😰), Closer to home, you can also find it in the mines of Gujarat & Rajasthan
But why should you even care about this ancient ash? 🙄
A powerful detoxifier, Bentonite clay has these benefits -
- Helps detoxify your skin. with it's adsorbing qualities, it literally pulls out toxins from your pores like a magnet! (Try mixing the powder with apple cider vinegar or rose water if you have sensitive skin, apply as a mask for 10 minutes, and et voila!)
- Helps reduce acne/inflammation! (Mix with warm water and apply as a thick paste on your face, or on spot patches, leave it on for 20 minutes, wash off with lukewarm water)
- Protects from UV Rays - consistent usage of this clay powder can protect your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays and also help treat sunburns
- Prevent or at least reduce blackheads. (Mixed in Jojoba Oil, a non-comedogenic oil which wont clog your pores even further, used as a carrier oil for the paste you have created, apply on areas you're prone to blackheads, allow it to dry and wash off. Repeat twice a week)
Some other benefits include evening out skin tone (much needed with our erratic weather in India right?), rejuvenating your skin, treating rashes as well as soothing your skin.
Most commonly used in soap and face masks for its skin benefits, where it helps cleanse the skin and remove impurities, it also contains a range of minerals to nourish and support the skin's natural healing processes. We use it because it works like a sponge on your skin, absorbing dirt and oil, like sebum, and in removing all toxins. Ideal companion for a face scrub that sheds dead skin cells right?
Do let us know if you try any of these methods! Or if you're a fan of Bentonite yourself 😁
